Foo Dog "Turning Fortune" Tea Pet

A ball with the Chinese character for fortune marked multiple times on it is embraced by a pair of foo dogs, or guardian lions. The ball is able to be spun, and it is believed that doing so can reverse bad fortune and bring good luck to the one who turned it. The underside of the tea pet is inscribed with the four Chinese characters used for the proverb “Fortune will always turn.” This piece of art is made from Yixing clay. Over time by being treated with tea, the clay will gain a deeper luster and sheen as well as take on the properties of the tea that is poured over it beginning to eventually even smell like the tea that is used.
